There is this saying “In troubled times, do not blame your friends for being selfish to abandon you because there comes a time in which every man lives for himself”. Lately, I asked Zubin what is a friend? Zubin tells me that a friend is one which you feel comfortable with. I responded to tell him that you friend is one that wishes the best for you even to the extent of wishing and being happy for him or her when she is of a better state then you.
Well, I would like to add on the list to mention that a friend is one who stands by you in troubled times. A friend is one that when in times of need, they wouldn’t turn their back on you. On TV a very common scene you would encounter is when in need of money and you approach your friend, they would come up with all sorts of excuses. Some say “Hey I am so sorry my relative is in hospital just lent them money, I’m a little tight.
Tomodachi... means friends in Japanese. Let us sit back and think about the above, how many friends do we have? Well for me I could clearly tell you zero. Sad isn’t it? Well, all along I have been a sad kid who really wants to have a group of friends as stated above, however I know it isn’t easy and my first step I am going to take isn’t to find these group of “Tomodachi”. But rather I would be a “True Friend” to my peers.
No one is perfect, it’s true. Your friends aren’t perfect either and they all have their human nature. However I am not saying that you should say “Hey you! You call yourself my friend?” The point I am trying to emphasize is that you should be a true friend towards others and in turn they would do the same for you I believe. Lately in church, the pastor has been mentioning about the spirit of god. Favours are not meant to be paid back, they are meant to be paid forward. I look forward to utilizing this concept in the context of friendship.
Just a few days back, I have started on my NAPFA training regime. I realized that sometimes it’s not about getting your friends to push you to exercise and therefore you exercise with them, rather it requires discipline. The good news is that today, the training showed its results on my Friday basketball sessions. Well, that’s just the minor part. The good news is that I am one step towards a healthy life style.
